The videos in this collection tell nine unique stories, each created by children and youth in Italy, Greece, and Türkiye. These stories emerged from workshops exploring themes of migration, cultural encounters, and language. Each scenario was then performed in all three countries, weaving together local voices and shared experiences. The videos capture the spirit of these collaborative journeys, offering a window into the richness of shadow theatre and the powerful stories that connect us all.
Note that titles of the same script can vary depending on the choices of each country for cultural adaptation. The original 9 scripts were performed and adapted in each of the three countries. For example “The Journey of Death”, titled by Syrian children and based on the true story of Ailan Kurdi, was adapted in “The Story of Adam” o “Adam’s travel” in the other countries.
The Shadow en Route Documentary traces the creative journey of children and artists across Italy, Greece, and Türkiye who revived the ancient art of shadow theatre to tell stories of migration, memory, and connection. The film reveals how the project was developed in all its parts — from research on shadow theatre routes to the overall structure and organization of activities — and features testimonies from both participants and artists, offering a comprehensive view of the collective work, creativity, and dedication behind this project.
