The research component of the Shadow en Route project explored the heritage of shadow theatre through an intercultural and contemporary lens. The investigation connected the historical roots of this art form – from Anatolian and Middle Eastern traditions to its evolution in Greece and Italy – with present-day themes of migration and cultural memory.

The work was carried out through the collaboration of artists, researchers, and local communities in the three partner countries, with the aim of collecting materials, stories, and testimonies, and producing resources that contribute to the preservation and innovation of shadow theatre.

An illustrated booklet was produced designed to present the project to a broad audience. It documents the outcomes of the workshops and performances, providing descriptions of the nine scenarios created and their adaptations in Türkiye, Greece, and Italy. Conceived both as a record and as a dissemination tool, the book is available in printed and digital formats, ensuring wide accessibility.
